Mahindra was one of those auto manufacturers who got hit badly after the NGT (Mational Green Tribunal) ban on diesel cars which are equipped with 2000 cc or bigger diesel engines. But, since then Mahindra is continuously working on to improve its product line up, it has launched 1.99 Liter diesel engines for its vehicles and now it has introduced a new Mild Hybrid technology for its most loved vehicle Mahindra Scorpio. According to the company, the new “Intelli Hybrid” technology will increase the fuel efficiency by 7 per cent. The new Mahindra Scorpio Intelli Hybrid will be priced between Rs 9.74 lakhs to Rs 14.01 lakhs (ex showroom prices, Mumbai).
The new Intelli Hybrid technology will assist its 2.2 Liter, 2179 cc mHawk diesel engine with electric power while accelerating the vehicle which will improve the overall performance and fuel efficiency of the vehicle. Also, it will automatically shut down the mail engine when vehicle will be idle, for example at traffic signals, railway crossings, etc., which will improve its fuel efficiency. Apart from that, this technology will help to use the brake energy charge the battery which usually gets wasted.
In the Indian auto market, Mahindra Scorpio is the first SUV which have got Mild Hybrid capability, and the vehicle continues to be a trend setter in terms of technology and being first in segment. Mahindra Scorpio was the first talking car in the Indian auto market with its Voice Messaging System. Apart from this, the vehicles was the first in segment with CRDe diesel engine with six speed automatic transmission system and it was the first vehicle in the Indian market which has introduced Micro Hybrid start stop technology.

Since its first launch back in year 2003, Mahindra Scorpio is the king of Indian auto market in SUV segment, and it ruled this segment more than a decade. During this journey Mahindra Scorpio has won several awards which includes “Best Car of the Year” from one of the popular weekly auto series “World Wheels” and “Best SUV of the Year” awards. The vehicle went through several ups and downs in the Indian auto market and it has faced very tough competition from other SUvs of the segment like Tata Safari, Renault Duster, etc. and it survived the challenge.
The third generation of Mahindra Scorpio which is currently available in the showrooms was launched back in year 2014. Though, since then the vehicle doesn’t seen any major cosmetic or specs changes but it has been witnessed of new engine. Earlier, Mahindra Scorpio was available only with 2.6 Liter, and 2.2 Liter mHawk CRDe diesel engine but this year Mahindra has introduced a new 1.99 Liter mHawk diesel engine with Scorpio as well. The company has launched this new engine to over come the ban on 2.0 Liter and above diesel engines in the national capital Delhi. Now the launch of Intelli Hybrid technology with Scorpio will further improve the product line ups of Mahindra and Mahindra in the Indian auto market. Though, it will be available only with the Mahindra Scorpio 2.2 Liter, mHawk manual transmission variants.
