A sports car is a symbol of speed, force and power. Buying a sports car is an investment since it involves a lot of money. Since sports cars are generally more expensive than ordinary cars, it should also be bought with greater caution. Here are some things to consider while buying a sports car:

A Sports Car Buying Guide

  • Limitation in number of passengers- Sports car generally has only 2 seats. So if you want to have more than one passenger, then this might not be an ideal choice.
  • Decide the budget- Decide the amount of money you are ready to spend on the sports car. Do not end up in buying a model that is beyond your comfort zone.
  • Convertible or coupe- These are the 2 common styles of sports cars- the open- roof convertible and the closed roof coupe. Which one you buy is obviously a matter of taste but those who don’t like the sun should opt for closed roof coupe.
  • Take into account the car’s resale value- The resale value of the car should also be one of your considerations when buying a sports car. Most sports car deprecate faster than do most other regular ones. Read reviews of sports car models in net or ask friends or relatives (who have a sport car) about the car’s performance. If there’s a possibility that you might lose interest in a sports car, it’s better to switch to regular cars so that you are not spending for just a new toy.
  • Choose the transmission- Consider the car’s transmission features. Decide whether you want a five or six speed transmission. The places you usually frequent can also help you decide on the transmission. For example, if driving in traffic area will be best with automatic transmission that you can switch to manual when needed.
  • Do some research- Since there are many brands of sports car available in market, you should do your part of research before you go to buy one. You can study online or go to a local dealership for a brochure. Auto magazines can also give you valuable information on the vehicle’s performance, reliability and technical specifications.
  • Look for anti- lock braking system- It is a computer system in the sports car that recognizes when the car has lost its traction. The system operates by reducing breaking power and then reapplying it. The system comprises wheel speed sensors, a hydraulic motor, brake callipers, pressure release valves and obviously a computer. The sensor and the calliper in placed in the wheel itself.
  • Rent a sports car before buying- Since it is a huge investment, I advise you to rent a sports car and go for a long drive. Test drive is also an option but with renting you will get the freedom and time to explore the vehicle. If you are a resident of New York City and want to rent a sports car, you need not worry.
