Used cars are commonly bought and sold all around the country. There are millions of people who don’t want to buy a car, or can’t afford to buy a car at full price often prefer going for a second-hand model. However, there’s always a small element of risk involved in buying a used car. Some of the issues with used cars include:

  • Replacing the timing belt;
  • Engine issues;
  • The car doesn’t drive well due to an accident in the past.

While there are plenty of dealerships that sell trusted used cars in Scarborough, you still have to be careful and check the car carefully before making a purchase. Here are some basic tips to help you buy a used car.

Check the Odometer Reading

The first thing that every prudent used car buyer should do is check the odometer reading. If the car is north of 100,000 kilometres, you might want to reconsider your decision. A car that’s been driven over 100,000 kilometres will require a lot more work, such as replacing the cam belt/ timing belt, as well as installing new tires. Look for a car that’s been driven less. It might be more expensive, but at least you won’t have to worry about additional repairs.

Get It Inspected

Before you buy a car, make sure you get it inspected by a third-party mechanic. Take a mechanic along with you, or bring the car to a local workshop and have it checked by a professional before making a decision.
