Three Car Maintenance Tasks Often Forgotten

Car owners can easily prevent breakdowns by taking their vehicles in for regular maintenance services. While your car is being maintained, mechanics can find other problems that could quickly become expensive emergency repairs. There are some maintenance services that should be done on your car regularly, such as:

  • Changing the oil and oil filter
  • Changing the air filter
  • Inspecting the windshield wipers
  • Changing the power steering fluid
  • Checking transmission fluid

There are many other systems that need to be checked regularly but that people often overlook.

Inspecting Belts

Most makes and models of cars have a large serpentine belt that wraps around the power steering, generator, water pump, and air conditioning compressor pulleys to keep these systems running properly. If there is wear or cracks in the belt, your car could fail and leave you stranded somewhere.

Clean Battery Contacts

Although the battery can be checked during car repair services in Reading, you can prevent needing repairs or at least a jump start by checking the battery contacts. They can come loose with the vibrations of the car and the contacts can corrode, draining the battery of its power.

Replace Cabin Filter

People not familiar with mechanics may not know their cars have cabin filters. The filter helps prevent dust, pollen, smog, mould spores, and other debris from coming into your car through the vents when the HVAC system is on.

Taking care of these maintenance issues when recommended will keep your car in good shape and could help keep you and your family healthy.
